IP Australia, the Australian Government patent authority has recently granted and sealed a Standard Patent (No 2005252264) to Memstar Pty Ltd for its invention: "Alcohol Reduction in Beverages".
Inventor and Memstar director, David Wollan, said this was a welcome recognition of Memstar's unique alcohol reduction process. It follows the earlier granting of a South African patent (2006/00064), with applications in many other international jurisdictions pending.
"We believe that our Australian invention is the international leader in satisfying the need for a safe and economic method of reducing the steadily increasing alcohol level of wines around the world. Our process is without precedent in using a two stage membrane system to effectively filter alcohol, and alcohol only, out of wine. The granting of the Australian and South African patents, with others pending, is a very satisfying acknowledgment of our considerable efforts in making this novel technology a reality, in Australia and around the wine world."
